What's in Your Hands?... What's in Stores...What do you Buy?
The 1920's may well be remembered as "The roaring 20's"...The Jazz age or age of short skirts, cropped hair and a flatter torso. But they also became the age of the Knit Jersey Craze that changed knits forever.
Chanel, Vionnet & Schiaparelli are the trio of designers who dominated the 1920's fashion couture scene.
Knit garments of every kind became the height of fashion. Hand knitting became very popular. Those who could not knit quickly learned how. Their fashion trends were sensational. Nothing like them had ever been seen before.
Knitting tools also changed from "natural" turtleshell or ivory to new plastics such as Faux tortoise shell and celluloid (bakelite) invented by American scientist John Hyatt. Needles were made in all sorts of wonderful colors and styles...they were warm in the hand and effortless to knit with.
Nuna's Vintage knitting needles hold a story, it hides in the wool and whispers from the clicking needles. They date back to hands like yours. Someone made them in the "Roaring 20's".
